Older People’s Day at the Broad Street Mall on 1st October from 10am to 3pm.
Details are in the link below.
The festivities will start at 10 am with a welcome from the Mayor of Reading, Councillor Debs Edwards.
The focus for this year is ‘bringing people together’, connecting people from diverse cultures and backgrounds to other communities and to local services.
The event will be an opportunity for older people, those reaching retirement age and those with concerns about older parents and neighbours. Come along to find out about activities and opportunities that can help keep you well and connect to your community.
This will be followed by a range of interactive activities throughout the day including:
• Tai Chi
• Art and craft workshop
• Acting and writing workshops
On Monday last week 31 Engage clients and volunteers were treated to lunch, bingo and a quiz organised by young people on the National Citizenship program. Many clients and volunteers have expressed appreciation for such an enjoyable occasion and can’t wait to repeat it again next year. Thanks to everyone for your hard work in making this possible.
Our next induction course will be held on 16th October at 7pm at Norcot Mission Church. If you are interested in training to become a volunteer befriender then please register your interest with Shelley by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org
Engage Befriending attended a conference last month on making Reading friendlier. During the conference we were approached by a reporter from ITV Meridian who wanted to film a case study for an article for the 6pm ITV Meridian news. Shelley volunteered herself and Reg, her Engage friend, and the film crew came and filmed at Reg’s house. Well done Reg and Shelley, you were brilliant!
Volunteer Social 14th March 2018
Here at Engage Befriending we are thankful for our volunteers…..
Wednesday 14th March 2018 heralded the opportunity for volunteers to meet and get to know one another at our volunteer social. The Pitcher and Piano provided a relaxed venue and those who came enjoyed spending the time together. It was also an opportunity for volunteers to meet the staff team and hear a little of the vision for the future of the project.
The main focus of the evening however, was to show our appreciation to all our amazing volunteers without whom the service couldn’t run. Certificates were presented to those who have volunteered for two and four years, and a celebration cake enjoyed.
The Oasis Cafe at Norcot Mission Church, West Reading
Norcot Mission Church runs a cafe every Friday morning from 10am and refreshments are free. It’s a great place for older members of the community to connect with others. Here at Engage Befriending we love to promote the good work of others in our community.
